How Dasher taxes work in 2026
- Add up what DoorDash paid you, tips included.
- Subtract your miles at 72.5¢ (January to June) and 76¢ (July to December), plus other expenses. What is left is your profit.
- Pay 15.3 % self-employment tax on 92.35 % of that profit.
- Pay income tax on profit after the standard deduction, half of SE tax, the tips deduction and the 20 % QBI deduction.

Questions
Does DoorDash take out taxes?
No. Dashers are independent contractors, so DoorDash pays you in full and withholds nothing. You pay self-employment tax and income tax yourself, usually with quarterly estimated payments.
How much should I set aside for DoorDash taxes?
Use the percentage this calculator shows. Miles make a big difference: with $25,000 of earnings and 14,000 miles, it comes to about 8 % of what the app pays you, before state tax. With few miles it is much higher.
Are DoorDash tips taxed?
Tips are income and count for self-employment tax. From 2025 through 2028, app-based delivery drivers can deduct up to $25,000 of qualified tips from income tax, as long as the tips are on the 1099 the app sends.
Will I get a 1099 from DoorDash?
For 2026 payments, DoorDash has to send a 1099-NEC if it paid you $2,000 or more (the limit was $600 before). You still have to report all your earnings even if you get no form.
Does DoorDash track my mileage for taxes?
Do not rely on a number from the app alone. The IRS expects your own records for the mileage deduction: the date, the miles and the business purpose of each trip. A simple mileage app or a notebook works.
